Working Forests for Birding Field Day

More than 90% of Georgia’s forests are privately owned, providing 22 million acres of forested landscape that support the state’s bird population. Although they are some of the most biologically diverse ecosystems for forest-dependent species, opportunities to access these privately-owned lands have been limited for the birding community.

The Georgia Forestry Foundation and Georgia Audubon are co-hosting a field day that will feature a unique birding experience throughout a gorgeous Piedmont region property that is covered in native pine trees. The tour will be led by Georgia Audubon and forest management experts, and you’ll learn about how different Georgia working forests habitat types benefit various bird species.

ABOUT THE EVENT

The Georgia Forestry Foundation and Georgia Audubon will host this field day event to connect birding enthusiasts with working forest landowners across the state.

Who should attend: Birders and bird habitat enthusiasts; forest landowners and managers interested in learning more about managing forests for bird habitat.
What to expect: Attendees will engage in birding activities led by Georgia Audubon experts and a property tour led by forest management experts. You will learn about different forestland habitat types and how they benefit various bird species.

Georgia Bird Bookings connects forest landowners with bird watchers through a birding access permit. Learn more about Georgia Bird Bookings, GFF’s partnership with Orbis to help landowners capitalize on birdwatching interest, and birdwatchers gain access to new locations.

At the field day, GFF and Orbis will introduce Georgia Bird Bookings, a permit program that allows landowners to gain revenue by offering their land for birdwatching access.
