Working forests serve as Georgia’s greatest asset in providing clean drinking water, offsetting carbon emissions and sustaining habitat for wildlife and biodiversity. We are focused on identifying market-based solutions that empower forest landowners and managers to better manage their forests while increasing the sustainability and resilience of the state’s largest land use.
Healthy, well-managed forests lead to safe and reliable drinking water, less water treatment, and less energy and chemicals used in drinking water treatment process. We are connecting water providers and users with private forest landowners who are protecting and providing high quality source water.
Private forest landowners plant more than 200 million seedlings annually in Georgia. As a result of healthy markets and the efficiency of the entire forestry supply chain, Georgia’s forests offset 22% of the state’s emissions from fossil fuel, and forests and forest products are positioned to do even more.
